CONDUCTION
The first form of heat transfer is conduction, from molecule to molecule. Two objects start as different temperatures that come in contact with each other. Heat goes from the warmer object to the colder object until they are the same temperature. This process is most effective in solids but does happen in fluids too. Conduction occurs in lots of places.
Conductors Conductors transfer heat well. The better the conductor the faster the heat transfers to that objects.
EX: metal, silver, gold, copper, etc... |
InsulatorsInsulators are the opposite of conductors. They are very poor conductors of heat.
EX: air, wood, paper. Natural insulators include feather and fur. |
